A simple message to all passionate about helping children and their families facing the daily challenges of autism spectrum disorders.

Karen Kaplan has over thirty years of experience working in the field of Autism Spectrum disorders with children, adults and their families. She has engaged with schools, residential programs and non-profit day programs addressing the challenges of Autism and other similar learning differences.

• Karen has a BS and MS in Speech Pathology from Arizona State University
• Karen has a minor in Special Education and an Educational Administrative Credential
• Karen has taught and lectured at several colleges and universities in California
• Karen founded and directed a residential school for 20 years serving ASD in the Sacramento Area
• Karen directed a private school for emotionally challenged teens for 4 years in Sacramento
• Karen was the Executive Director of Oak Hill School, (theoakhillschool.org), a day school for ASD in Marin County for 5.5 years
• Karen served on the California Association for Private Special Education Schools (www.capses.com)  for over 10 years
• Karen volunteers her time speaking, lecturing and consulting

Karen has spent time in China and Cuba as an ambassador for special education and envisions helping children and families living with ASD in less developed countries.

Karen works as a private consultant with family resource centers, parents, public and private schools, colleges and other agencies that support the needs of people with ASD and other developmental challenges. Karen is currently on the Board of Directors of ParentsCan (www.parentscan.org), a family resource center in Napa. She volunteers on the Autism Tri-County Collaborative (www.nbrc.net) serving Napa, Sonoma, Solano Counties as well as the Marin Autism Collaborative www.marinautism.org  in Marin County. Karen travels twice a year to the East Coast to consult with families.

Karen is the creator of the Marin Autism Lecture Series, featuring monthly presentations by ASD experts in the fields of Medicine, Research, Education and Therapeutic Interventions. Sign me up!
